Alleged November 2010 carjacker Leslie Mosby was formally indicted Tuesday with one count each of carjacking and of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.
The Federal grand jury’s indictment specifically charges that Mosby conspired with another to commit gunpoint carjacking and that he carried and used a firearm during the incident.
On Nov. 21, 2010, Mosby and Karl Sappleton allegedly carjacked a silver 2000 Cadillac Deville at 50th and Arch streets and crashed into barriers on 40th Street and Locust Walk. He then reportedly dropped his weapon and ran across High Rise Field before being apprehended. Sappleton then allegedly shot at police, who shot and killed him.
If convicted of all counts, Mosby faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum of 10 years, a $500,000 fine, five years supervised release and a $200 special assessment. He will also be forfeiting all firearms and ammunition used in the offense.
Mosby will be tried at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania under Magistrate Judge Carol Sandra Moore Wells. This case has been investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Philadelphia Police Department.
