Penn’s hottest weekend of the year just got spicier.

The Social Planning and Events Committee picked “Viva La Fliñg” as its theme for Spring Fling 2011, which will take place April 15-16.

“This year’s theme seeks to celebrate Penn’s diverse cultural atmosphere,” according to a SPEC statement.

“This is going to be the biggest fiesta of the millennia,” said SPEC Spring Fling Co-Director and College junior Eileen Feng.

This fall, SPEC Spring Fling members voted from a list of about 20 possible themes.

Although themes such as “Peace. Love. Fling.” and “Teach Me How to Fling” were considered, Feng noted that “Viva La Fliñg” was the committee’s overwhelming favorite.

SPEC Secretary and College junior Lilun Li said that she was excited for this year’s Spring Fling theme because it’s “not just a random catch phrase but [a theme] you can do something with.”

Li added that SPEC Spring Fling members have already met with multi-cultural groups on campus to make sure that the theme “would not be controversial.”

The implementation of the theme “will be respectful but also [create] a festive atmosphere,” Li said.

The theme will dictate SPEC’s annual t-shirt design contest. Designs are due to SPEC by Feb. 22.

Feng added that the organization has not chosen a performer.
