The Social Planning and Events Committee elected its new executive board for 2009-2010 last night.

College junior Dasha Barannik will lead SPEC as the body's new president. College junior Preston Hershorn will serve as the vice president, Wharton sophomore Adam Thompson will take over as treasurer and College junior Eileen McKeown will be secretary.

According to Barannik, SPEC will continue to raise the bar on the quality, visibility and diversity of events.

SPEC hopes to increase the accessibility of the board, as well as to reassess students' needs for programs that have received less publicity than Spring Fling concerts and Connaissance speakers, Barannik wrote in an e-mail.

Overall, she wrote, SPEC will scrutinize each event to ensure the Board is "truly responding to student demands."

Outgoing SPEC President and College senior Michelle Jacobson wrote in an e-mail, "We are confident that the incoming executive board and directors will continue the tradition of providing engaging and dynamic programming for the entire student body."
