'Nova to headline '08 Philly Classic

Penn hoops fans staying on campus for Thanksgiving weekend can still satisfy their hunger for college basketball - they just shouldn't expect to see much of the Quakers.

The Philly Hoop Group Classic will, for the second year, be taking place Thanksgiving weekend at the Palestra, according to an e-mail from Pete Kirschner, Director of Team Tournaments for The Hoop Group.

This year's participants will be led by Big 5 member Villanova. The other schools taking part will be Penn State, Rhode Island, Towson, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Monmouth, Niagara, and Hartford.

Opening round games will be played at campus sites beginning Nov. 16, with the final contests at the Palestra.

Last year, Penn and Drexel both participated in the tournament. The tournament is broken up into two separate brackets: Seton Hall upset Virginia to win the Independence Bracket, which included the Quakers, and Drexel was the champion in the Liberty Bracket.

This year, the Red and Blue will be traveling to upstate New York that weekend, according to the schedule released by Albany July 11.
