In its final head-to-head competition of the season, the men's heavyweight rowing team continued its disappointing season, losing the Madeira Cup to Cornell.
Penn fell first in the freshmen 8 race by 6.8 seconds. Cornell clinched the Cup in the varsity 8 race, clocking in at 6:11.8, over 16 seconds ahead of the Quakers.
The Big Red were not yet done, however, and finished the sweep by winning the varsity 4 race. Cornell's "B" boat won the race, finishing 2.7 seconds ahead of their "A" boat and 38.7 seconds ahead of the Quakers.
The Red and Blue finish up their 2008 campaign, which thus far has yet to include a victory in a single race, at the IRA Regatta at Camden, N.J. June 5.
