Familiar Philly face to join Miller's bench

Glen Miller has found himself a new right-hand man.

Philadelphia native and Saint Joseph's alum John Gallagher will join the Penn basketball program as an assistant coach, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Gallagher is firmly rooted in Philadelphia hoops. After playing for Phil Martelli's Hawks, he was an assistant coach at both La Salle and Lafayette.

"He's going to be kind of a connector for me," Miller told the Daily News. "I've only been here two years. Everybody knows it's not the easiest place for somebody coming in from the outside."

Gallagher will be leaving his assistant job at Hartford, where he spent two years under Dan Leibovitz.

He replaces Chris Sparks, who recently departed to coach his high school alma mater.
