Philadelphia Runner, a local specialized running store located on 16th and Sansom streets, will open a second store next to the Inn at Penn in December.
Manager Ross Martinson said the store will carry many of the same products as the Center City store, including running shoes and apparel.
In addition, the store will carry some performance apparel and casual wear.
There are also plans to offer coaching services.
"There are lots of active people around University City, and it's an up and coming area," Martinson said.
Executive Director of Real Estate Ed Datz said that "the product mix of running equipment, apparel and swim wear, is attractive to [the] University population."
The store will replace Messages, which left this May.
