All fifteen Taco Bell restaurants in Philadelphia - including the Penn Food Court location - shut down yesterday afternoon, according to The Associated Press.
The eateries closed after E. coli was believed to have been found in New Jersey, New York and Montgomery County Taco Bell locations. Taco Bell voluntarily shut down the Philadelphia locations and is waiting for inspections by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to be conducted, the AP reported.
Officials believe green onions are the source of the E. coli, which has affected at least four dozen people so far.
E. coli is a type of bacteria that can cause severe human illnesses.
