News Brief: Most dinosaurs yet to be discovered, prof says

Jurassic Park fans, get ready: There are a whole lot more dinosaurs out there.

Research from a Penn professor estimates that only 29 percent of dinosaur species have been found, and many more are coming in the future.

Peter Dodson - a paleobiologist and anatomy professor - put together a statistical analysis of every dinosaur genus, a biological classification one rank above species.

Their results, Dodson said, mean good news for dinosaur fans.

He said scientists are likely to discover over 1,000 more genera than the 527 known today. And they're likely to discover most of them within 60 to 100 years based on their analysis of discovery patterns.
