Allegro Pizza closed for light remodeling

Allegro Pizza, at 40th and Spruce streets, closed indefinitely late last week.

A sign on the door said that the store had been shut down by the Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections, in order to fix parts of the structure including the ceiling.

A spokesman for the department had no knowledge of the shut down.

According to the answering machine at Allegro Pizza, the shop will be closed for a few weeks for light remodeling.

The message also instructed customers to buy food from The Greek Lady and The Best House Pizza while Allegro Pizza remains closed.

$6.9 million science center to be built

Pennsylvania state Representative James Roebuck announced that $2.9 million and a $4 million loan have been given to the University City Science Center.

The money will be used to construct a new building along Market Street that will feature 125,000 square feet of research and laboratory space and 15,000 square feet of office space, according to Roebuck.

The two-acre property is currently a parking lot. The new complex will include a five-story parking garge with laboratory space on the top floor and retail space on the ground.
