Anxiety abound

But summer rock will fix that

Are You Nervous?

Rock Kills Kid

I'm not going to lie, a lot of crap comes through the Street music section. There are mounds of cds that no one will ever listen to. Sure we get the normal big releases, but mostly there are little no name bands that will never make it past the give away box. However, once every so often a cd comes through that is a pleasant surprise. Rock Kills Kid "Are You Nervous" is one of those cds. This young band's debut album has had critical acclaim with veteran magazines such as Rolling Stone who named them one of their 10 artists to watch. But real success has come when the ever so popular but rapidly declining show the OC sampled one of their songs in a recent episode. "Are You Nervous?" was written by Rock Kills Kid's front man Jeff Tucker, who spent a large part of the last 4 years homeless. Tucker cites his influences as early U2, Modern English and the Smiths, and it comes out in the songs. You can almost hear young Bono belting out Rock Kills Kid's title track among others throughout the cd. This album combines the U2 genre with dance rock (also heard in bands like Franz Ferdinand) for a light summery rock album. The only downside is that the lyrics are sometimes repetitive and lacking in insight, but overall when you're driving down the highway with your windows down and the volume blasting you won't really care.
