Raluca Ciochina won her singles match against Tina Razloznik of Arizona to help No. 63 Penn upset No. 30 Arizona. The senior won three of four singles matches on the trip.
The win against the Wildcats was the only victory for the Quakers during their spring break trip out west.
Penn (5-4-1) took on No. 59 U.C. Irvine, Arizona, No. 17 Pepperdine and No. 35 Fresno State on its trip. The Quakers prevailed over Arizona 4-3, winning two doubles matches and three in singles over the favored Wildcats.
Penn's luck ran out though, falling to Irvine 4-3. Ciochina was unable to break through this time to be the difference maker fro the Red and Blue.
The Quakers lost 5-1 to Pepperdine and tied Fresno 2-2 in a match that was cut short due to rain.
Singles were played first at Fresno in an attempt to try to determine a victory before weather stopped them. Only four matches were finished, and Alexis Plukas and Ciochina came away with wins for the Quakers.
The doubles point was not contested at Pepperdine due to rain as well. This is unfortunate for the Quakers given that they won both doubles points over the trip.
Penn has won five of the eight potential doubles points in match play this year.
The four matches concluded a seven game road trip in which the Quakers went 2-4-1. The team will play its last non-conference match against Old Dominion at home on Saturday at noon.
