Center fielder notches weekly league award

Junior outfielder Joey Boaen was named Ivy League Player of the Week for his contributions to the Quakers' three wins in five tries last week.

The center fielder batted .318 with seven hits, three of them home runs, while also adding eight runs and seven RBI.

In the home doubleheader against Columbia to open the league season on Saturday, Boaen shone in Penn's second-game comeback. He went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and hit the game-winning single in the eighth to put the Quakers ahead for good, 12-11.

Despite the 6-14 record, a Penn baseball player has been named to the Ivy weekly awards for the third week in a row. Freshman Tony Moses was named Rookie of the Week, and last week Bret Wallace was named Pitcher of the Week.
