- Feb. 8 -- Penn Police have identified one of the two men they say were involved in the Nov. 6 gunpoint robbery of two women on the 4100 block of Woodland Avenue. The victims -- one of whom was affiliated with the University -- were robbed of their cell phones, wallets, textbooks and other personal items in the incident, which occurred at about 3 a.m.
William Pew, 18, a resident of the 5000 block of Chester Avenue, has been charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy. He was in custody for an unrelated charge at the time of his arrest. Both incidents are being handled by the Philadelphia Police.
- Feb. 7 -- Sometime between 5:15 and 6:30 p.m., a bicycle worth $475 was stolen from a bike rack outside Hill College House, located at 3333 Walnut St. The bicycle was secured with a padlock.
- Feb. 6 -- The owner of Curly's Cleaners, located at 117 S. 39th St., reported that a man walked into the store at about 10:45 a.m. and began hitting two store employees with an umbrella. Johnnie Brookins, 51, was apprehended and arrested by Penn Police and charged with two counts of aggravated assault as well as simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime.
A report from the 16th Police District indicated that the man was the same individual who was responsible for stabbing a woman at about 9:30 a.m. on the 3500 block of Fairmount Avenue. The woman was treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and released the same day.
- Feb. 4 -- Emergency Medical Services staffers responded to the Sigma Chi fraternity at 3809 Locust Walk house at 6:40 p.m. after getting a call regarding College sophomore and fraternity member Paul Schoemaker. Police said the 20-year-old student assaulted one of the staffers before he was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is charged with aggravated assault. The EMS staffer was not injured.
- Feb. 4 -- At about 3:55 p.m., police say a man walked into the Food Court at 3409 Walnut St. and began yelling and screaming. An employee was struck in the arm when the man started throwing chairs around the diner. Kahleaf Johnson, 20, a resident of the 1100 block of South 53rd Street, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The employee was treated for minor injuries and released from Presbyterian Hospital.
- Feb. 1 --Two iPods worth a combined total of $700 were stolen from the Penn Computer Connection at 3610 Sansom St. at about 5:25 p.m. Employees identified a suspect and immediately notified Penn Police when the person returned to the store at about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Girard McKinon, 42, a resident of the 1400 block of S. 19th Street, was arrested and charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
