Oft-delayed food court project gets one tenant
Though slated to be completed on Jan. 1, construction on the Food Court -- formerly known as Moravian Cafes -- is not yet over.
However, one of the new tenants has already moved in.
Sandwich-maker Quiznos is the first restaurant to open for business in the new Food Court, which will eventually house KFC and Taco Bell -- newcomers to campus -- as well. The Food Court will also contain returning vendors Famous Famiglia Pizza and Gourmet Ice Cream and Yogurt -- the only two establishments left after most tenants vacated the location in late 2004. CVS will move its campus location from the 3900 block of Walnut Street to the Food Court.
Famous Famiglia plans to reopen on Friday.
Work on the Food Court, located at 3401 Walnut St., has experienced a series of delays due to rising construction costs and complicated lease negotiations. It was originally set to reopen in mid-October.
Bitar's, Oriental Gourmet, Philly Steak and Gyro Company, The GrillWorks, Buckhead Deli and Wrap Company and Salad Creations left the locale in 2004, many citing financial difficulties.

Superblock planting area once again open
Despite a recent pause in construction to accommodate students studying for finals, the Superblock landscaping project aimed toward curbing the "wind tunnel" along Locust Walk near the high rises has reached the end of a major phase.
The fences surrounding the site, which previously forced students to walk around Superblock in order to access Harrison College House, have been removed, and students can now use newly constructed walks.
Construction began at the start of the semester and was originally expected to finish at the start of finals week. It was delayed by snow, during which time workers halted construction.
Facilities officials said last month that landscaping and planting will continue at the site throughout the spring semester.
