After switch, cleaner returns to Spruce St.

Shops under Stouffer engaged in complex location rotations

A campus dry-cleaner has returned to Stouffer Triangle on Spruce Street after a brief relocation to 40th Street as part of a complex retail merry-go-round on Spruce.

Bonded Cleaners had to temporarily change location while the retail complex underwent "internal shuffling," Director of Real Estate Operations Ed Datz said.

Bonded Cleaners manager Hyong-Sun Jung said that, despite the cleaner's shift in location and the loss of 15 square feet of space, the facility remains largely the same.

"I expect it is more convenient for freshmen," Jung said, noting its proximity to the Quadrangle.

The retail shuffle Spruce under Stouffer College House began when sandwich shop Tony Luke's expanded into what used to be Dolbey's Health Science Bookstore, Datz said.

Dolbey's then agreed to move for the summer into the space on the same block occupied by Bonded Cleaners and shoe store Grand Shoes.

Meanwhile, the dry-cleaner moved temporarily to a spot on 40th Street between Walnut and Locust.

Grand Shoes has since moved away from campus.

Finally, over break, Bonded Cleaners was able to return to Spruce, moving into part of Dolbey's old location.

A new business is scheduled to open in the rest of Dolbey's old space in April, Datz said.

He said he couldn't release specific details about the new tenant because a lease hasn't yet been signed.

As for the empty space on 40th Street, Datz said there's a waiting list of business that want to fill the spot.

"We certainly have interest in that space and we expect it to be filled up quickly," he said.
