Theft
n Oct. 2 -- A security guard at the Fresh Grocer, located at 4001 Walnut St., stopped 25-year-old Eric Jones of the 3900 block of Melon Street in West Philadelphia after the man allegedly tried to leave the store at about 7:15 p.m. without paying for $52 worth of toiletry items. Jones was arrested and charged with attempted theft.
n Sept. 30 -- A woman who is not affiliated with Penn reported that at about 11:15 p.m., two men approached her from behind on the 100 block of South 36th Street and attempted to grab her handbag. After their attempt failed, the two suspects fled north on 36th Street, then west on Warren Street.
n Sept. 30 -- A 28-year-old female Penn graduate student reported that at about 8 p.m., she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her purse as she walked west on Spruce Street from 42nd Street. The man reportedly fled south on the 300 block of St. Mark's Square, then west on the 4200 block of Delancey Street with the purse, which contained about $350 in cash.
Bike Theft
n Oct. 2 -- A 27-year-old female Penn employee reported that she locked her green and gray Trek mountain bike -- worth $425 -- on a bike rack at 36th Street and Hamilton Walk, behind the Rhodes Building, at about 6:45 a.m. She returned around 3:30 p.m. and found the bike missing.
n Oct. 1 -- An 18-year-old male Penn undergraduate reported that his silver and red Specialized mountain bike -- worth $250 -- was taken from a bike rack adjacent to Gregory College House, located at 3909 Spruce Street, between 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1.
n Oct. 1 -- An 18-year-old male Penn undergraduate reported that his yellow and black Cadex road bike -- worth $1,500 -- was stolen from a bike rack beneath the footbridge next to Hill College House, which is located at 3333 Walnut St. The bike had been secured with a cable lock.
