News Brief: Citigroup names Rodin to Board of Directors

Former Penn President Judith Rodin was one of two women appointed to the Board of Directors of Citigroup Inc. yesterday. Anne Mulcahy, chairwoman and chief executive officer of the Xerox Corporation, was the other.

"I join with the rest of the board in welcoming these two fine leaders to our ranks," Citigroup Board Chairman Sanford Weill said in a statement. "Judith, a widely respected leader and the first woman to head an Ivy League institution, will bring great additional perspective and insight."

The Board of Directors is responsible for oversight of the company.

Yesterday, the financial services company announced its earnings were up 13 percent for the third quarter of 2004, and that the company made more than $5.31 billion over the three-month period ending on Sept. 30.

Citigroup has some 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 100 countries.

Rodin is also a member of the board of directors for Aetna Inc. and Electronic Data Systems Corporation.
