News Brief: Former U. employee arrested for 2nd time

The former University employee who was arrested last month in connection to multiple thefts in Hill College House has been re-arrested and charged with nine additional counts of burglary.

Jibreel Williams was allegedly involved in eight burglaries in Sansom Place West, and an additional burglary in Hill College House, according to the most recent charges.

Prior to his most recent arrest, Williams had been charged with entering several residences in Hill House and taking a number of items, including a laptop computer.

Police officials said that Williams' two jobs at Penn, one as a furniture sub-contracting employee at Hill House and the other as a chef in 1920 Commons, furnished him with a PennCard and Hill House room keys that he allegedly used to commit the crimes.

The police now suspect that Williams had copies of the keys made. Officials are also looking into the possibility that Williams was not working alone.

A preliminary hearing for the most recent charges is scheduled for Oct. 15, but will likely be postponed until December in order to coincide with the hearing scheduled for Williams' first arrest.

According to a police source, the police are "still looking into other incidents going as far back as the beginning of August," but no additional arrest is immediately pending.
