Preliminary hearing for alleged thief postponed
The preliminary hearing has been postponed for the dining hall employee and furniture subcontractor arrested in connection with stealing several items from the rooms of Hill College House residents.
Jibreel Williams, 29, is charged with entering the rooms of several Hill residents and taking, among other things, a student's laptop computer.
The hearing was originally scheduled for Friday at the district courthouse located at 55th and Pine streets.
According to the Penn Police Department, Williams allegedly entered four rooms on the fourth and fifth floors of Hill between 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Police officials say that Williams' two jobs at Penn, one as a furniture sub-contracting employee at Hill House and the other as a chef in the 1920 Commons dining hall, furnished him with the PennCard and Hill House room keys that he allegedly used to commit the crimes.
Prior to his arrest, police said Williams confessed in a phone call to committing the crimes.
Last Tuesday, a male student from Hill House reported that his Game Boy and Canon digital camera were taken from his locked room, but the police have not indicated whether or not the incident is connected to Williams.
