Sports Brief: Turf nearly finished

Penn's Franklin Field turf close to completion

The installation of a new artificial surface at Franklin Field is close to completion, according to Associate Director of Athletic Communications Mat Kanan.

"The field is down," he said, although the base of rubber pellets on which the turf is built is not yet fully installed."

That process is being handled by Sprinturf, the company which manufactures the playing surface. When the base is completed, there will be 82,000 square feet of new turf insid the borders of the Franklin Field track.

The end zones have been painted blue with white "PENN" lettering in the middle, and the new split "P" logo sits at midfield facing the home fans' side of the stadium.

Other Sprinturf clients include the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans of the NFL, whose practice facilities use the surface.
