Penn wrestlers finish in top six at Athens trials

The 2004 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials featured three former Ivy Leaguers finishing in the top six.

Among the six, two were Quakers. Penn graduate Yoshi Nakamura and Penn senior Mike Faust both finished fifth in their respective weight classes.

Nakamura came in fifth at 163 pounds while Faust earned fifth place at 264.5 pounds.

Nakamura went 3-2 at the trials, losing twice to former Wisconsin Badger Donny Pritzlaff (5-1, 4-1). Faust split two matches with Penn State alum Pat Cummins.

At the end of the day, no Ivy Leaguers, past or present, advanced to the Olympics.
