Penn's crew teams were busy over the weekend.
The Red and Blue heavyweight crew team took second in the varsity eight at the Childs Cup in Orchard Beach, N.Y. The Quakers fell just short of Princeton, the perennial winner for the last 12 years.
Penn's freshmen fared better, edging the Tigers in both races on the day.
In lightweight crew, the Quakers varsity rowers finished third in both races at the Matthew-Leonard Cup in Ithaca, N.Y.
Harvard took top honors, followed by host Cornell, in both varsity eight contests.
The freshman eight came in just a second-and-a-half behind the Big Red.
The Penn women enjoyed home course advantage, hosting Syracuse and Northeastern. The Quakers prevailed in two of the three varsity races.
Syracuse took the first varsity eight race, but Penn came back to win the second by nine seconds. The Quakers varsity four also came out in front with a time of 7:56.7.
Penn's novice eight squads yielded two second-place finishes.
The men's heavyweight team hosts Yale and Columbia for the Blackwell Cup on Saturday. The lightweight team will also host Yale and Columbia for the Dodge Cup on the Schuylkill River. The women's team heads to Rutgers on Saturday.
