Valenti ousted in opener, four wrestlers advance
Penn sophomore Matt Valenti lost his opening match to the Mid-American Conference champion, Buffalo grappler Mark McKnight, yesterday at the NCAA Championships inSt. Louis.
Valenti was seeded third overall in the 125-pound weight class, but was upset by McKnight in a match that went to four overtime periods. Valenti defeated Stanford's Tanner Gardner in the wrestlebacks.
Sophomore Matt Herrington, junior Matt Feast and seniors Doug McGraw and Marcus Schontube all won their first matches to advance in the championship bracket.
