Lamp sparks bedroom fire in Hill College House

A fire started in Room 419 of Hill College House last night when a lamp fell over and ignited a pile of papers. Students reported smelling smoke around 8 p.m., and the fire was discovered in an unoccupied room approximately an hour later.

"Basically, we smelled some smoke around the suite, but no one really did anything," Wharton sophomore and Hill resident Dan Berstein said.

When students realized where the smoke was coming from, they entered the room with a fire extinguisher.

"There were flames and smoke everywhere," Berstein said.

The Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and stayed for around 40 minutes, according to Berstein. The firefighters destroyed a desk in the process of extinguishing the fire.

No other damages or injuries were reported.
