Gymnastics prepped for two meets with Temple
Eleven months have passed since the last time the Penn gymnastics team took on Temple in a dual meet, an agonizingly long time for a rematch with a team that defeated the Quakers twice last season by less than a point. The two teams will meet this week, today at Temple and Sunday at Penn.
After the Owls edged Penn by just eight-tenths of a point last Feb. 7, they defeated the Quakers (3-0) again in March by an even slimmer margin, 0.075.
However, Penn -- which sits atop the ECAC standings -- returns a seasoned squad that is coming off its fifth-best performance in program history, a 191.3.
The Quakers will need to continue competing at their best if they hope to beat Temple (2-0).
This past weekend, the Owls finished third at the Maryland Quad Meet, scoring a 189.3. They placed four gymnasts in top-10 spots in three different events.
Temple and Penn have competed already this season at the George Washington Invite, with the Owls again scoring slightly more than the Quakers, 189.25-189.075.

All-American honors to Cross for second year
Katy Cross, a junior on the Penn women's soccer team, has been named Honorable Mention All-America by Soccerbuzz.com for the second consecutive year.
The forward was one of only two Ivy League athletes to be named to the squad, as reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Esmeralda Negron of Princeton was also named to the team.
Cross has also been named first-team Academic All-American, second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region and first-team All-Ivy this year.
