"Save room for dessert" is not simply a tired mantra at More Than Just Ice Cream -- it's the law of the land.
The laid-back restaurant, located at 1119 Locust St., provides a casual, but lively, dining experience. High ceilings and large windows give the dining area an airy feel, and relaxing and upbeat music adds to the atmosphere. Kitschy accessories, such as ice cream cone-shaped lampshades, dot the facility, adding an element of modernity and fun. Especially pleasant are the comfortable pillows lining the booths, a welcome accessory for any tired back.

To start with, we ordered the chicken tenders ($6) and a chocolate milkshake ($3.50). The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the outer coating gave the tenders a nice texture. The milkshake was refreshing and struck the perfect balance between thickness and creaminess.
Next, we had the chicken quesadilla ($8), which came with a side of mixed greens. The chicken's smoky flavor was complemented by the roasted peppers, and the filling cheese was offset by the refreshing mixed greens. A highlight was the tangy balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
For dessert, we sampled a number of different ice cream flavors, all of which were excellent. The blueberry cheesecake ice cream was "nothing short of fantastic," a perfect union of sweet blueberry and creamy cheesecake flavors, while the peanut butter ice cream was intense and creamy, satisfying to the last bite.
The strawberry shortcake ice cream was unique, actually containing a piece of shortbread. The ice cream's flavor matched its colorful appearance, offering a burst of flavor with each mouthful. The black cherry ice cream was not to be outdone, its fruity flavor truly the best we'd ever tasted.
The chocolate chip cookie dough sundae begged to be devoured in a single bite, with velvety hot fudge, sweet butterscotch and flavorful whipped cream accenting the work of art.
All of the ice cream is concocted on the premises, which is clear from its fresh ingredients and assortment of original flavors. For those just in the mood for dessert, an ice cream parlor is directly adjacent to the restaurant.
The low prices, generous portion sizes, quick service and quality of both entrees and desserts make More Than Just Ice Cream a great destination for informal dining.
