College Pizza expands Walnut Street location

College Pizza completed expansion of its store, located at 3925 Walnut St., to include the space formerly occupied by Baskin-Robbins, opening its doors yesterday.

"I think it will increase the business," College Pizza manager George Ballouz said. "Often people would come in and want to sit down. They don't just want to grab a slice and leave. Now they have the opportunity to sit down."

Ballouz added that he hopes the expansion, which adds 1,200-square feet to the shop and includes a seating area, will also bring more exposure to the business since the new space directly faces Walnut Street.

Before the addition, six barstools were the only seating space in the restaurant. With the expansion, however, 25 people can be seated.

Although the additional seating is now available, College Pizza owners are still waiting to install a milkshake machine, a coffee and tea station, and to put up decorations on the walls to complete the expansion project, Ballouz said.

Discussions about expansion began about a year ago. The space was officially acquired in February. The past three months have been spent renovating the space, which owners rent from Penn. This is the fourth year that College Pizza has been operating at its present location.
