Macik axed by Detroit in final cuts

The 1996 Penn graduate was one of seven players cut by the Detroit Lions. Macik had been in competition with Tommie Boyd and Kez McCorvey for the two final spots on the Lions' roster. It is believed new Detroit coach Bobby Ross discarded Macik due to a lack of speed. Macik was undrafted out of Penn, but signed a free agent contract with Detroit in May of 1996. He never appeared in a game. Macik was sacrificed for Detroit to get down to 53 players before this weekend's season opener. -- Jordan Smith
