The new SCUE Room set to open in the fall is a wonderful extension of SCUE's "Take a professor to Lunch Week." We commend SCUE for expanding their successful "Take a Professor to Lunch" program from one week to year-round. The new dining section of the Faculty Club is a step in the right direction toward facilitating more student-professor interaction. We encourage all students to take advantage of this new opportunity to talk with their professors outside of the classroom setting. Just think of all the academic and research topics one can discuss over lunch with a professor. The preceptorial program run by SCUE also deserves attention as it enters its third semester. Preceptorials provide students with a unique chance to combine learning about ecology, for example, with fly fishing. This inventive program also allows professors to teach a course that might involve two of their favorite, unrelated subjects such as literature and statistics. We hope more professors choose to teach these innovative courses in the following years. The new student-faculty lunch room and next semester's preceptorials are the kind of quality student life improvements that we have seen from SCUE in the past. We applaud their efforts and are excited to see what they develop next.
