LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Broom distribution successful

To the Editor: Over 200 brooms were distributed to students living on blocks surrounding campus to encourage them to take pride in the neighborhood and keep the front of their residences and streets clear of trash. Through all of our efforts, neighborhood streets are looking cleaner. However, we have a long way to go in helping to achieve a clean and safe neighborhood. I encourage all students to become actively involved with the Campaign for Clean Streets. Glenn Bryan Community Relations Director Story appreciated To the Editor: Thank you for the informative article "New orchestra conductor seeks higher profile, more fans" (DP, 10/18/96). Our conductor, Ricardo Averbach, has been trying hard to raise the orchestra's profile, and an article in the student newspaper was exactly the kind of boost we needed. The section of the article concerning getting academic credit for rehearsals and performances will also help us in lobbying the administration. I hope the DP will continue to support the orchestra in its effort to gain recognition. William Liu Orchestra Public Relations Officer College '99 Repeating old news? To the Editor: The October 17 issue of the DP especially disappointed me. How many articles can be written on Judith Rodin's salary? And you once again published an article on how one Urology professor is the highest paid professor at Penn. I guess this is a form of recycling. Will the new and improved DP include another article about the salaries of Rodin and the urologist? I can only wait and see. Chris Wallgren Engineering '99
