Mortar Board honors two profs English Professor Peter Conn and Management Lecturer Myles Bass were honored for their leadership, scholarship and service at a reception held at the Faculty Club. The awards were presented as part of National Mortar Board Week, which ends today. – Kara Blond Police arrest car phone thief A crowd of onlookers watched a University Police detective chase and arrest a juvenile across the street from the Quadrangle at 37th and Spruce streets, after the youth was seen stealing a car phone from a nearby van. According to University Police Captain John Richardson, Detective Gary Heller observed the suspect break the van's window and take the phone at approximately 2:24 p.m. Following a short chase, the suspect was arrested in the 37th Street subway-surface station. The phone was recovered at the scene. He said the theft was probably a crime of opportunity. "The juvenile saw the phone and figured he'd break in while nobody was looking," Richardson said. "He didn't see anyone around, so he thought he'd just be able to take the phone and leave." – Yochi Dreazen Assault suspects wanted Three juveniles are wanted in connection with an aggravated assault at the New Deck Tavern at 34th and Sansom streets Tuesday night. According to University Police Captain John Richardson, the incident began when the three juveniles tried to sell candy in the bar at approximately 8:45 p.m. "An employee asked them to leave, an argument ensued and things escalated," he said. "The juveniles ended up hitting [the employee] in the head with a chair." Richardson said the employee was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with injuries to his face and head. --Yochi Dreazen
