The reactivations come after an alarming three armed robberies in the University City area over the past two weeks. These changes are just the latest example of Rush's ability to see and respond to the needs of the campus community before difficult and dangerous situations become unmanageable. Combining the resources and skill of members of the Philadelphia Police department's Anti-Crime Team, Tactical Response Team and Undercover Burglary Detail with plainclothes University Police officers should measurably improve the security of homes and businesses on and around campus. According to Rush, we won't be able to see some of the new officers at work; their near-invisibility to observers is part of their effectiveness. Still, we will know these extra officers are out there, and their very deployment is proof that the University Police department recognizes its responsibility to create a genuinely safer environment in University City.
