Camfield gets job offer from University of the Pacific

English Professor Gregg Camfield has received a job offer from the University of the Pacific in California, according to English Undergraduate Chairperson Al Filreis. Camfield was denied tenure last year and his tenure case is currently being reconsidered by the department's personnel committee. If Camfield does not receive tenure, he will have to leave the University after his seventh year of teaching, in accordance with University policy. "We can only hope that the personnel committee makes the decision quickly and on the chance that they approve him for tenure, he can have a choice," Filreis said. Students in Camfield's English 200 class, Introduction to American Literature, said they think he is an excellent professor. "He's made reading Moby Dick a lot easier," College sophomore Lisa Jellinek said. College senior Sara Kleinberg said the job offer is a good opportunity for Camfield, although it is a loss for the University. "He's really in touch with his students and it would be a shame to lose him," Kleinberg added. Camfield declined to comment last night.
