Officials try to fill positions

Undergraduate Mathematics Chairperson Dennis DeTurck, who is one of the head's of the VPUL search, said he expects to begin considering candidates by early June. "VPUL will play a substantial role in the reshaping of the undergraduate experience, we are approaching the current phase of our work with great care," DeTurck said. Fry said he has chosen a finalist from among four candidates for the vice president position, adding that he will most likely make an announcement by the third week in June. And he said he is confident about the candidate because the individual has visited the University twice is scheduled for a third trip. But Fry is not as sure about the police commisioner position. He said he hopes to have the position filled by July 31 -- the day Police Commissioner John Kuprevich retires. "I'm cautiously optimistic will have this wrapped up by the end of July," he said. Fry added that the job has been advertised in major newspapers across the country. And the University has begun to receive responses. He estimated that there will be over 100 applicants for the commissioner's job. Fry added that once he narrows down the candidates to a short list, there will be a faculty and student review of the applicants.
