IN BRIEF: Newman Council holds elections

A new board of Newman Council representatives were elected last night, with Wharton sophomore Brian Sheth selected as the next president of the Catholic student organization, replacing outgoing president College senior Jeremy Chiappetta. "The strength of this new council is their commitment to reach out and get more people involved," Chiappetta said last night. "The high calibre of this council is indicative of the success of and need for a Newman Center on our very secular campus." College junior Paul Godinez, a Daily Pennsylvanian columnist, was elected vice president and Wharton sophomore Maryrose Estacio will serve as secretary. Next year's graduate chairpersons will be Gino Freeman and Liz Broadwell, while John Sweeney will serve as graduate vice chairperson. Education graduate student Michelle Szpara and doctoral candidate Charlie Baily will serve as spiritual chairpersons while College junior Donna Caro and Wharton sophomore Marian Logrip will be in charge of outreach. Daily Pennsylvanian columnist and Wharton junior Marc Teillon and Nursing junior Ellen Hennessy will be the next social chairpersons of the Newman Council. -- Randi Feigenbaum
