The burst pipe closed Gimbel from Monday afternoon until Tuesday, according to Director of Recreation Bob Glascott. The break occurred at noon Monday, he said, and the gym was closed down as of 3 p.m. Glascott added that the closing of the gym was not the result of a flood. "There was no flooding," he said."It was just that we had no water at all." He said Physical Plant had to shut down all of the heat because the gym uses steam heat. The toilets and showers were also not operable, he added. Physical Plant finished repairs to the pipe around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The gym was open for business by 6 p.m. -- Amy Lipman
