The Daily Pennsylvanian

IN BRIEF: Music conference starts tomorrow

The conference will feature representatives from many national music labels and over 40 different practically-minded seminars on topics such as how to manage finances, the best time to get an agent, and how to record a good demo. Musicians who have registered in advance can have their music listened to by major label representatives in blind panels and receive commentary on their performance. Lisa Loeb, whose single "Stay" has made Billboard's Top Ten list, was signed to a major record deal after participating in last year's event, organizers said. Six other bands were offered contracts following last year's conference as well. Students can register at a discount rate of $65 per individual. If the student is willing to volunteer 10 hours of service to the conference, the registration fee is dropped to $35, and for 20 hours admission is free. Over 1700 people are expected to attend and the Penn Tower Hotel will be entirely reserved for the conference. To register or for more information, students can call 426-4109 or visit the Penn Tower Hotel tomorrow. --Jessica Toney
