The Daily Pennsylvanian

Welcome back alumni

Wondering what to do before the homecoming game between Yale and Penn at 1 p.m. today? The Office of Alumni Relations has set up a host of activities for students and alumni who want to take a stroll down memory lane -- or take a tour of the path to the future. For alumni who want to relive their freshmen days, a guided tour of the Quadrangle will be held at 10:30 this morning at the 3700 Spruce Street entrance. The same tour will also be given after the game at 4:30 p.m. Concerned about the future of undergraduate education? College Dean Robert Rescorla -- who officially replaced former College Dean Matthew Santirocco this summer -- will speak to School of Arts and Sciences alumni at a coffee hour at the Smith-Penniman room of Houston Hall at 10:30 a.m. Also at 10:30 this morning, members of the Old Guard classes -- those who graduated at least 50 years ago -- will have a chance to reunite at a luncheon at the Faculty Club. This is a reservations-only event, costing $18. Both students and alumni can partake in the first annual "Oktoberfest" on College Green at 11 a.m. Oktoberfest will feature food vendors, live music and appearances by newly inaugurated President Judith Rodin and Provost Stanley Chodorow. Want to learn about the newest use of solar energy under the sun? The Solar Car team will demonstrate its new, award-winning Liberty Belle, which placed third at the Tour De Sol race this summer, at the Oktoberfest. Members of the Engineering Alumni Society and members of the 1990 Sunrayce Team will be able to meet by the car for a reunion. Female journalists will also reunite before the game. College for Women alumni who wrote for the Pennsylvania News are invited to the first-ever "Old Girls' Network" reunion before the game at The Daily Pennsylvanian office at 4015 Walnut Street, where they will be able to meet undergraduate women with common interests. For those who do not believe football is the only sport worthy of support, the Friends of Women's Athletics organization will hold a reception before the game in the Donaldson Room of Weightman Hall. In the mood for hot apple cider? There will be a General Alumni Society Postgame reception at the E. Craig Sweeten Alumni Center at 4 p.m. Beer, wine and "munchies" will also be served. After the game, Engineering Alumni will welcome back members of the Engineering Class of 1994 at 3:45 p.m. on the first floor of the Towne Building. For other recent graduates looking for a more informal reunion, there will be a reception at the Palladium at 4 p.m. Alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited to join together at the annual Black Alumni Society homecoming reception in the Multipurpose Room of the W.E.B. Dubois College House at 4 p.m. Also at 4 p.m., DP alumni will be able to reunite and meet current staff members at a reunion at the DP office. Immediately following the game, there will also be a Friars-Sphinx homecoming reception in the Bodek Lounge of Houston Hall.
