BRIEFS: Student wins $1,000 scholarship

Wharton sophomore Arianne Herbitter recently won a $1,000 scholarship from U. The National College Magazine. "I was in shock -- I never thought I had a chance of winning," Herbitter said. "I was happy to find out that I won." She received the award in the field of finance. The magazine offered 10 other scholarships in different academic disciplines, Aglaze said. --Jorie Green Author to hold book reading today Lilane author Ntozake Shange will read passages from her new book and be on hand to sign copies of the work at 4:30 p.m. today in Annenberg room 110. Shange wrote several other novels, plays and poems, including for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, which won an Obie award. The African American Arts Alliance will perform excerpts of one of Shange's plays for her tomorrow in the W.E.B. DuBois College House at 7 p.m. --Tammy Polonsky
