Wedding bells rang for School of Arts and Sciences Dean Rosemary Stevens last month, as she officially tied the knot with Jack Barchas, chairperson of the Department of Psychiatry at Cornell Medical College. Stevens' Aug. 9 marriage took place in a Philadelphia federal courtroom in the presence of family members and close friends. In an interview earlier this week, Stevens said that former University Interim President Claire Fagin played a major role in introducing her to Barchas. "Let's just say I was instrumental in their meeting," Fagin said. "They're both the most wonderful people. "It's one of the most wonderful things anyone could do," she added. "And this is such a happy occasion." Fagin, who was present at the wedding, called it "a beautiful event." Barchas and Stevens will maintain two homes, one in Philadelphia and one in New York City, where Barchas is psychiatrist-in-chief of New York Hospital, concentrating his efforts on biomedical research. "This marriage has been excellent in that it's super at this stage for my happiness," Stevens said. "It's wonderful that I've been able to find someone I can be truly happy with." Barchas, Stevens' second husband, has one child from a former marriage. Stevens has two children from her previous 22-year marriage, which ended in divorce in 1983. The newlyweds celebrated their marriage with a honeymoon in late August, the details of which Stevens described as "classified."
