EDITORIAL: Sordid Squalor

Apparently, the bathrooms were built without adequate ventilation -- which, incidentally, just may violate a city ordinance. As a result, students in those sections of the Quad are treated to a perpetual stream of filth and urine. It is absolutely unacceptable that in 1994, students at a top university should be subjected to sub-Victorian restrooms, especially when they are paying through the nose for housing. Not much can be done about the architectural genius who built a toilet without a window or air shaft. We are pleased to see that Residential Maintenance has identified the problem and we urge them to take comprehensive action, in order to allow students to access a bathroom which isn't teeming with bacteria and similar vermin. This problem must be taken care of immediately. Quad residents have enough other things to worry about, such as naked lunatics sneaking in through broken doors and cavorting in women's bathrooms.
