PrideFest Philadelphia, an "unconventional convention" which brings a variety of seminars, parties, and cultural and sporting events to the city's gay community, was celebrated last weekend. "If we want the world to accept us, we must first accept ourselves," Navratilova said in a statement. Interested Philadelphians had an array of social and intellectual activities to choose from, including a "Youth Prom" geared toward gay teenagers and a seminar entitled "Making the Classroom Gay and Lesbian Friendly," which discussed homophobia in public schools. A water polo exhibition at the St. Joseph's College pool featuring Gay Games warm-up matches between New York and Washington, D.C. teams was held on Saturday night. PrideFest events were sponsored by various churches, restaurants and other associations. -- Jorie Green
