Quad hosts Friday Night Thing

Last Friday night the Spruce Street House managers of the Quadrangle sponsored the Friday Night Thing, a gathering of a group of students who wanted an alternative to the numerous fraternity parties offered on the weekends. "I came here because I am tired of participating in the immature fraternity scene," said first-timer College freshman Tod Kupstas. Fellow first-timer College Freshman Abbott Wang said, "Its a great opportunity to meet new people." And regular attendee College Freshman Sameera Hafiz entered the room screaming, "I am excited for the Friday Night Thing. Yeah!" The Friday Night Thing is a biweekly event beginning at ten o'clock in Fourth Floor Provost Tower. The 10 to 20 students who participated in the event took part in various activities. They range from playing board games like Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary to staying up half the night to have movie marathons which include watching the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies, said Engineering senior Duke Schnolas, a computer lab manager. Event coordinators also offered free drinks and chips for participants. Academic Programs Manager and College Sophomore Jennifer Gwynne describes it as, "[an activity where] people come up socially to hang out, play games, and watch TV." "We encourage people to bring in their own ideas of what to do," Schnolas said. "We just encourage anyone to come." Gwynne said, "that because its small [a new comer] might not know anybody, [but] Duke or I will say hi." She also added that, "games are a huge icebreaker." As the flyer states, "It's all about having fun." "I enjoy the low key atmosphere, the people, Duke, and Jen," said Wharton freshman Chris Lee.
