Co-ed streakers bare bodies in Quad

College freshman Laura Borden leaned out of her first floor Quadrangle window yesterday morning and shouted to her roommate, "Hey, Kristen, want to see some naked guys?" More than 15 brave men and three women bared all to the morning sun and a few spectators at 7:00 a.m. yesterday as part of the annual Quad streak. The streak, as tradition has it, takes place early on the first Monday after Groundhog Day. The group of streakers ran one victory lap around the inside of the Quad, a spectacle that lasted about two minutes. While a sign in a Quad women's bathroom urged students to "watch," "cheer," or actively participate, few people actually showed up to witness the au naturel spectacle. Many students, though, who were awakened by the noise, took a peek out their windows for a glimpse of the action. College freshman Anna Zhuravitsky was among the proud who witnessed the streak. "I thought it was hilarious," she said. "It seemed to be very liberating for them." College junior and streaker Cres Pellecchia said he was nervous about the run. "I knew a couple of the guys on the track team and they sort of coaxed me into doing it," Pellecchia said. "I had a lot of adrenaline," he added. "I was really hyped up to do it, and it was a great feeling when I was done." Wharton and Engineering senior David Hoag had told himself for years that this would be the year. "When I'm a senior I'm gonna do it," he said he told himself. "You're only a senior in college once." "It felt quite natural," Hoag said. "It felt like I should go out and run like that all the time. I really didn't think about being naked." College senior Todd Petracek participated because he "wanted to get in shape." Petracek said the frigid temperature was no obstacle for him and his fellow determined runners. "[It's not important] when there are other things on your mind, like the fact that you're not wearing any clothes," he said. "It was a rush, a real rush," said Wharton and College senior Marios Koufaris. "I wanted to do something crazy in my senior year before I jump into the real world." Koufaris said he was not distracted by the spectators, who congregated on the Junior Balcony above McClelland Hall. "They were cheering all the way," he said. "It was encouraging." College freshman Rob Kroll was dragged out of bed by a fellow streaker, and subsequently joined the run. "It felt really good," Kroll said. "It got my blood flowing in the morning." Kroll said he wasn't deterred by the audience. "The cleaning ladies gathered on the balcony and cheered us on," he said. "You don't have to worry about personal inhibitions, because there's a whole group of naked people," he added. Kroll was tickled by the weather, though. "My penis felt cold," he said. And after the run, a winded female streaker exclaimed, "My, it's a bit nipply out here!"
