O'Neill officially

named head coach named head coachCompiled by DP Sports Staff O'Neill served as Penn's interim coach last fall and led the team to a 5-10 record, including wins over perennial power Philadelphia Textile and Big 5 foes La Salle and Villanova. He replaced Steve Baumann, who resigned in August 1993 after six seasons as head coach. Prior to coming to Penn, O'Neill coached numerous professional and club teams. He served as head coach of the Philadelphia InterSoccer Club, winning three state championships, and also coached the MISL's Philadelphia Fever to the finals in his first season. O'Neill, who was born in Scotland, began his professional playing career in Europe in 1962 and continued in the United States. He will begin his duties at Penn February 1.
