About The Poll:

Students were contacted by phone from phone numbers selected through a randomized process. The 43-question survey was developed in consultation with polling experts. Each question had a "no opinion or don't know" possibility, which accounts for the percentages in graphs and stories not adding up to 100 percent. Tabulations were done by Gallin, using both Execustat and Data Desk, on the IBM and Macintosh computer systems, respectively. Three hundred and seventy-seven students completed the poll, although well over 400 were contacted. The respondents were 56 percent male and 44 percent female, and equally distributed throughout all four classes. Sixty-four percent of the students were white, 22 percent Asian, 7 percent black and 4 percent Latino, which is fairly consistent with the University's overall statistics. The poll's margin of error is approximately +/- 4 percent.
