50 turn out for first NOW meeting

While the group is still in the planning stages, the president and founder, College sophomore Mary Jane Lee, said she was very pleased with the number of students who expressed interest. "This is very indicative of the fact that there is a need of a women's organization on campus," she said. The goals of the meeting were to introduce the idea of officially forming a NOW chapter on campus. Pennsylvania president-elect of NOW Barbara DeTullio, who spoke at the meeting, said she was "very excited about this happening on campus." She said the younger generation is the future of the organization and encouraged both women and men to participate. "You represent a large section that hasn't been tapped into," she said. The chapter hopes to address issues of local concern, focusing on increasing safety on campus, working with Student Health to provide information about women's health issues and raising awareness about gay, lesbian and bisexual rights at the University. – EMILY WOOD
