Man with knife assaults student

A student was assaulted by a man with a knife Wednesday night in the 3900 block of Walnut Street, University Police said night. University Police Sergeant Larry Salotti said that the student was walking along at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday on the south side of the street when an unknown male pulled a knife on him. The student punched his assailant in the face and fled the scene, Salotti said, adding that no words were exchanged during the assault. Salotti said the student was not injured in the attack and was not robbed of any money. He added that no arrests have been made. In an unrelated incident, two men attempted to rob another man at gunpoint yesterday evening at 40th and Market streets. The men approached the complainant, who is not affiliated with the University, at around 6:30 p.m., Salotti said. Salotti said that when the man noticed that one of the would-be robbers had reached his hand down his pants, he began to run. The man who was assaulted turned around while fleeing and noticed that one of his assailants had a chrome-plated revolver. He spotted the men running south from Market Street, Salotti said. One of the assailants is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and wearing a brown jacket and black pants, Salotti said. Salotti did not have a description of the second assailant. The man was not injured in the attack and was not robbed of any money. Salotti said no arrests have been made. In another unrelated incident, a student's home was burglarized in the 4100 block of Spruce Street yesterday, Salotti said. His front door was found forced open and a VCR, CDs and a coat were taken, Salotti said.
