We were all shocked about your article saying that Professor Arkady Plotnitsky was denied tenure (DP 3/6/92). As a student of his last semester, I was impressed with him as a wonderful teacher and incredibly knowledgable person. He does not only contribute to the English Department, but because of his diverse knowledge, he would be a loss to several other departments here at Penn. Professor Plotnitsky is the expert in the courses he teaches, and I do not believe anyone could teach them as well, and certainly not better. It would be a disgrace if he is forced to leave. I do not think we can spare him. TOVA RUBIN College '92
